There is no time to wait. In addition, there are positive socioeconomic impacts to creating and expanding public transportation and the use of electric vehicles and light rail systems throughout both rural and urban areas. I support this and can envision cleaner, more efficient modes of transportation that benefit the earth and our communities. Please move forward with these bold initiatives! |

I believe that the ensuing climate crisis is the greatest threat we face today, so it impacts all of my political decision-making. The Transportation and Climate Initiative seems like it would be a sound economic device to reduce transportation emissions, especially since Vermont would be working in conjunction with other larger, more populous states. I think TCI would be most powerful in Vermont if investments were used to mitigate economic impacts on lower-income and rural residents, who are likely to be disproportionately affected by the climate crisis, or to expand other transit options to rural areas. As someone who used to live in a more rural part of the state, car-dependency often felt like a millstone. Investment of funds sourced from TCI into expanded public transit across the state would, in my opinion, expand opportunities for more Vermont residents. |

With that in mind, I urge all parties to commit to bold climate action plans. Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement, all of them speak the need for drastic actions to reach our goals. No matter what happens with the federal government, these are targets/goals we should strive to. You have already taken the first step by coming together as regional states to acknowledge the need, and to work on making a change.
Sharing something that has touched my life... I having lived in NYC, and in Bethlehem PA, I could always see the benefit of a commuter rail line along the I-78 or I-80 corridor. So many people live in PA, and commute to NYC for work. It has always been a rumor, but has it actually been considered? That is exactly where you guys come in! PA, NY, & NJ!
Thanks for doing something!!!!

The need for better infrastructure, e.g. improved and expanded roads, better bridges, etc, as well as improvements in public transportation to get more vehicles off the roads is obvious. A plan that would improve all of these aspects would not only reduce traffic on our roads, but would lead to improved quality of life for everyone, reduced consumption of fossil fuels, and better air quality. Therefore, I fully support the Transportation and Climate Initiative. |

I would love to see more cars on some of the peak schedule trains on the Fitchburg line. I would also like to see more frequent weekday evening trains. Generally, whenever I attend a professional meeting in Cambridge or Boston on a weekday evening, I end up taking Bus 70 home, because my journey falls between the wide gaps in the night train schedule. I understand some cities have smaller commuter rail trains with electric engines that run more frequently to better support non-peak times. Collecting ridership analytics on every train on every commuter rail line would help guide this. |

Free bus transit is a good idea for my city. We have a lot of walkable streets but probably should assess all the neighborhoods both in the city and the suburbs. Also as a resident in the city I see a lot of buses but don't know how accessible they are in the suburbs. I have also wondered if more frequent smaller buses might make sense. |

To get people to get out of there cars, public transportation has become simpler and faster. In the Washington DC area buses to the Metro Stations would need to come more frequently and there need to be more bus routes that take people from one suburb to another. It takes me between 1.5 to two hours and several transfersto go from Beltsville to Bethesda (a half hour trip by car) via mass transit. Perhaps a bus lane could be added to the beltway (495) and a circute bus route could go around the beltway with stops at each beltway exit. Bike share stations should be available at all metro stations to take commuters the "last mile home." In the DC metro area bus ridership is down and subway ridership is down. If buses came as frequently as subway trains I am sure bus ridership would increase.
Also could private companies be encoured to use vans or buses to make private bus lines to augment publicly funded mass transit? |

Fossil fueled automobile traffic must be drastically reduced, and cleaner transportation modes are essential. I am appalled by the actions of Maryland Governor Hogan and Comptroller Franchot in approving the Beltway/270 expansion, and fail to understand how Maryland, as a TCI participant, can allow this short-sighted, environmentally irresponsible project to go forward. It will only encourage more traffic and lead to more development, while causing even more congestion while underway. Governor Hogan and Comptroller Franchot are not thinking about the TCI, combating the climate crisis, or prcioviding responsible leadership. By pushing this project and not seeking real, sustainable solutions to the transportation problem, they are doing a real disservice to Marylanders, the United States, and the world. |

Transportation is one of the top source of greenhouse gas emissions, and the TCI will build on the success of RGGI in coordinating the climate leadership in NY and the northeast. Please take this essential leadership role in the fight against climate change for this and future generations, and join the TCI. |

This should work in tandem with Virginia's participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. |

We must invest for the next 60-plus years by incorporating planning for expansion of mass transit such as local and express trains, support for electric vehicle infrastructure, pedestrian and bicycle-friendly neighborhoods, automated vehicles in urban areas, and any other initiatives that move us away from a fossil fuel-dependent society while also supporting the critical need to move resources (people and materials) to where they are needed. |

I fully support the policies put forth under this initiative. We need more solar electric based mass transit. Living in Europe 40 years ago was such a pleasant experience, traveling locally and across borders by train and rail. The US is so far behind in this. It's way past time to raise gas taxes and tolls on private vehicles and use the money to subsidize rail travel along major freeways as well as all the other great, innovative ideas out there. It's too bad that this may "inconvenience" some private car owners but it will benefit if not outright save this society. Let's see some courage out of the Governors of New England states! |

I live in NYC next to a bridge and experience the ramifications of excessive car transport in and out of City. Traffic, car fumes and noise pollution are a common occurrence in midtown. I personally experience sinus and respiratory symptoms due to the idling of cars and fumes that pollute the air. Europe has a stellar public transportation system that makes travel easy and more environmentally friendly, and the Northeast can only benefit from a similar network. We have a densely populated area where roads and infrastructure are not suited to the volume, and too many individual vehicles using the roadways. As traffic increases, idling increases and Co2 emissions increase, making the air quality poor and accelerating environmental fallout. |

Any attempt to take this inherent right from Us will be construed as an act of war against humanity.
