To us, it will merely be a cost increase, with no good outcome. I founded and distribute a FREE weekly newspaper across northern Rhode Island. We sell advertising in person. We gather news, face to face. (Collecting news electronically is a poor substitute). Finally, we deliver those newspapers.
Your efforts will cost the company more money, which will translate to smaller annual raises and profit-share funds to my employees. They will earn less, and spend more on the gasoline they need to do their jobs.
If your hope is to gather more money, you will succeed. If you hope is to lower the use of fossil fuels, you will fail.
Frankly, I think you know that already.
Secondarily, I urge you to consider the impact on a single mom out there. You are simply cutting her pay and hurting her family. So many of the same political officials behind TCI claim to care for poorer people. What nonsense! People see right through this.

Many of us live on fixed incomes and in areas where public transit is basicly non existant! An increase of another 5-17 cents per gallon with the increase in tax we are already paying would be difficult for many to deal with. The State of New Jersey seems to want to increase the costs of living here, with no attempt to help its residences, no help with property, no help with income tax, prescription prices, insurance cost for hard working citizens. Increasing the cost of living even more in NJ with no plan in place to help to decrease our other cost is ridiculous, but it is a typical NJ move by our politicians who only seem to care about looking good to the media and nothing about its citizens. I so wish I could move out of here!

I do believe that we should respect our environment but the mining and processing of lithium and other products for batteries used in electric cars and hybrids does much more damage to that environment than does gasoline. |

For example, by designing programs and solutions that serve both rural, urban, and sub-urban regions, which is both possible and essential. The impacts of climate change represent an urgent threat to communities, our economy, public health and people’s quality of life. To stop and reverse these trends, we must reduce emissions in the Transportation sector which generates most of the GHG emissions. TCI offers the best opportunity at this important moment for the Northeast to act collectively to improve mobility and make meaningful reductions in carbon pollution at a regional scale. A comprehensive approach like cap and invest can improve equity by helping to make clean, efficient, cost effective transportation available to everyone. |

I was pleased to see that many northeastern U.S. states including Vermont have signed a memorandum of understanding in regards to setting up a Transportation Climate Initiative marketplace.
As the world heats up, we have been falling further and further behind in reducing our carbon emissions. This, as you know, is definitely true of Vermont.
The new TCI can set a really solid structure to begin addressing carbon pollution in the transportation sector more aggressively, by raising new moneys through the cap and trade approach. This approach has worked well in other energy sectors with the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, so there's good reason to think it will work just as well in the transportation sector.
In this era when Vermont has limited ability to raise revenues, collaborating with so many other northeastern states in this approach makes eminent sense. I would like the parameters of the program to be as aggressive as possible so that we can begin making substantive progress reducing carbon in the transportation sector. Whether it be more fully funding electric school buses, or finding money for more electric vehicle charging stations, or incentivizing a hefty increase in purchase of electric vehicles, or other creative and innovative approaches, it's well past the time to really ramp up this type of work.
Thanks so much for your time.
