But a regional plan that reaches all the way to Virginia makes a lot of sense, and we would be foolish not to take advantage of the market power of such a large populous area to reduce emissions. The climate crisis is the number one threat to the future of all residents of Vermont and the planet. The near term costs of economic transition will be a good investment in the future of our energy infrastructure. |

PA, being an agricultural state, could also be proactive in sequestering atmospheric carbon in farm fields, by rebuilding soils that have been killed by pesticides and destructive tilling practices. |

Many of the current transportation systems in place are old and inefficient. Constructing new transportation that prioritizes efficiency, especially in terms of energy, will be extremely important during a time of growing climate crisis. Good public transportation helps those who are unable to afford vehicles have greater access to jobs and opportunity, stimulating economic growth. When a public transportation system is modernized, people will be more likely to use it, generating revenue for the system and cutting down on emissions from cars. Most importantly, implementing public transportation that runs on clean energy will be an extremely important step towards reducing environmental impact in the current environmental crisis. Improvements to public transportation should include: an expansion of charging stations for electric vehicles, electric buses charged by solar power, and an increase in public railways to connect parts of Connecticut while reducing carbon output. |

My lungs are definitely the worse for wear. My home and neighborhood is noisy, and traffic problems grow worse as population increases.
All this seems damaging and certainly adding to the destruction of our planet and our civilization. |

Transportation is the number one source of climate pollution in the United States. That means it is time to totally reimagine the way that we transport people and goods. We need a plan that holds large transportation polluters accountable for the pollution they create and invests in clean transportation solutions including:
-More public transit and electric vehicle infrastructure in rural areas
-Expansion of commuter rail, electric vehicles, and streets in the suburbs that are safe, walkable, and bikeable
-Sustainable and equitable housing near transit and electric bus fleets in urban communities
New York State has already been involved in the multi-state, successful RGGI program and TCI seems like a logical next step. We must commit to all the actions reducing greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible while making people's lives as easy as possible during the transition to renewable energy. TCI appears to be a program that could achieve these goals. I urge you to adopt this program.

First, reducing pollution from transportation is a key component to reducing Pennsylvania's emissions. There are numerous benefits to Pennsylvania and the entire Northeastern United States in cutting emissions and the subsequent formation of toxic greenhouse gases; public transit investments that could be made with TCI proceeds would be valuable and could be reinvested to develop further climate saving, greenhouse gas reducing programs throughout the region, protecting our children and the elderly from the choking greenhouse gases that have been linked to increased rates of respiratory disease, have been shown to affect the birth weight and overall fetal health in our region and darken skies with clouds of smog that are brimming full of dangerous chemicals that collect on our skin, in our hair, contaminate our fresh water supply and adversely affect the health of livestock grown for human consumption in the region.
I ask, that as the leaders responsible for effecting change, you choose the aggressive greenhouse gas reduction target that the most recent climate science tells us we need. I also urge you to adopt policy that prioritizes clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don’t have access to transportation choices.
The time to act is now! I’d like to point out that change has been a long time in coming, and it takes progressive, forward-thinking policy makers that agree with the urgency of the situation and are bold enough to perhaps step outside of their comfort zones in order to make meaningful change possible. |

I fully agree that a significant portion of the TCI proceeds should go to reducing the energy burdens of Vermonters with low incomes.
That we are the only state in the Northeast to increase greenhouse has emissions since 1990 and that our per capita emissions are the highest in New England, is a disgrace. We must do everything possible to ensure a clean future for our children and grandchildren. |

There is certainly a need in PA to reduce the number of vehicles on overcrowded state highways and offer citizens alternative transportation methods (buses, trains, electric cars, etc.). Offering alternative transportation not only will reduce pollution but will create much needed jobs in the state. This is a forward thinking initiative and hopefully will be embraced by our Governor and legislature. |
