Minimizing climate change is crucial to our health, environment, economy and national security. This disaster is destroying livelihoods, causing conflict and food insecurity, creating refugees, and fueling extinctions and natural disasters. It will continue to worsen even as we address it as long as we are still producing any greenhouse gases, and will accelerate unpredictably due to numerous tipping points and domino effects. We need to immediately change course as sharply as possible while we still can.
Our current modes of transportation are large contributors to climate change, and our crumbling infrastructure limits opportunities for our citizens and is a drag on our economy. We need major investment ASAP.
Governor Baker, please join the regional initiative and make the strongest commitment possible, and waste no time in working with our neighboring states to take as much action as possible. I deeply appreciate actions you have taken to date, but we need much more, more quickly.
Please also make it easier for citizens to multiply your actions by facilitating our adoption of clean energy. For example, PLEASE CHANGE THE UNETHICAL LAW THAT ALLOWS OUR GREEDY LOCAL ELECTRIC COMPANY TO LIMIT THE SIZE OF OUR RESIDENTIAL SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS.
Thank you. |

I am writing this to express my full support for PA to join the other 11 states in our region in the Transportation Climate Initiative. I am hoping this strategic plan will not only help carbon emissions that is critically needed, but also invest in public transportation projects that can not only provide more access to transportation for those without adequate transportation, but also reduce pollution while further developing green technologies which can in turn provide PA with more investments and job creation.
Thank you for your consideration of this important initiative.
Sincerely,
Dr. Julie Engiles VMD, DACVP |

With transportation plans, energy development and transition to greener sourcing also requires a regional planning approach. We must join in this process now. |

Public transit with sufficient frequency and coverage to attract car drivers while continuing to serve those without other choices will be an essential element of that. In designing this initative, I urge that aggressive greenhouse gas reduction targets be chosen consistent with the 1.5 degree warming target recommended by the ICPCC. |

I am in full agreement that new policies need to be developed to reduce fossil fuel use and encourage non-polluting fuel sources and mass transportation alternatives. By working together, the TCI states, including mine (Maine) can take steps that need to be taken very soon to make a difference in saving humanity from the ravages of unhinged climate change. |

If people can put so much planning into all the gas and oil pipelines, then I’m sure we can put at least as much thought into public transportation and clean energy!
It is a lot nicer and generally safer to take a train than to drive a vehicle. |

The largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in Vermont is the transportation sector. The increasingly evident negative affects of climate change highlight an urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Vermont would benefit from being a part of the TCI to encourage a reduction in carbon emissions from transportation. Proceeds from the TCI would benefit low and moderate income Vermonters and help incentivize public transportation and electric vehicles. As an EV owner, I am aware of the many benefits of EVs, including less vehicle maintenance, no smelly trips to the gas pump, and less expensive operating costs. I would like more Vermonters to have access to EVs. |

Some of the problem is we stop using trains for mass transit, second of all in the turn of the 20 century they had trollies which ran on electric power, which was used for mass transit, until people said they were out dated. Individual electric cars is not the answer, nor will fossel fuel come to an end, to me if we did more freight with trains and reintroduce the trollies back there will be a cut back on carbon from trucks and automobiles . |

We know that emissions from vehicles contribute heavily to the overall state of our environment. Reducing pollution from transportation is a key component to reducing Pennsylvania's emissions. I support the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI). Here are a few reasons why:
-Public transit investments that could be made with TCI proceeds would be valuable.
-It is the aggressive greenhouse gas reduction target that the most recent climate science tells us we need.
-It prioritizes clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don’t have access to transportation choices.
-Too many of our public buses and trains run on dirty energy and contribute to air pollution and climate change. Many trains, buses, and stations haven’t been retrofitted in decades. For many people in rural parts of our states, there are zero viable public transportation options, which forces them to drive.
By making polluters pay and creating a dedicated source of funding through TCI, we’ll finally be able to move our state to a 21st-century regional transportation system that is cleaner, more reliable, more accessible, and more affordable. We’ll see less traffic, thousands of new jobs, and less dangerous air pollution. All communities — whether urban, suburban, or rural — will benefit.
Our air is making too many of us sick — and if history is a guide, it’s not going to get better on its own. We need to take bold and concerted action to reduce the carbon impact of our transportation system, and TCI’s combination of using pricing policies that discourage polluters and modernizing our public transportation system will do exactly that. |
