Maine is a large, (land-wise) rural state with a small population. There are no public mass transportation systems. The people here are not wealthy and depend on their vehicles to get to work. I urge Gov. Mills to consider the people of the state and the adverse impact this hated new tax will have on them. This will not be forgotten at re-election time. |

NO it more like 80 and 90mph. If you put up radar traps then you would have enough money in a year to fix all the roads State by State. I also have trouble renting my home because of all the noise and filth from the traffic! We have to breath all this filth and it makes me ill. I used to be able to sit outside in the summer but not anymore! I have traveled 9,000 miles across America on a camping trip recently just to see all the National Parks and thank God they are still there, but soon the rest of America will become cemented over and all the lovely wild animals will be killed off on these dreadful highways and all the trees will be cut down because it's called progress. I realize it is a vast country but why can't we manage our transportation system more like in Europe with electric trams? So much cleaner!!! Why do we have to build huge concrete and glass buildings everywhere, so many ugly places sprawled out eating up the fields and meadows, and then we wonder why the birds and the bees are dying at a record pace!!! STOP and REFLECT the long term consequences. |

What we started in the 1970s should have been finished long before now. We need to build and sell electric vehicles to replace combustion engine buses, trucks and cars. I purchased an all-electric car, the Volkswagon eGolf and paid $20,000 for it after rebates. Not everyone can afford to buy a new car, however, even if it is only $20,000, so the government needs to give incentives to people so that they can afford them. Cities and towns across the country need to replace their old buses and city vehicles to electric vehicles. Companies that use trucks need to purchase electric trucks.
First we need to implement a carbon fee and dividend program that will tax any company that extracts fossil fuels based on the ton of greenhouse gases the extracted fuels will emit when burned. Once the tax is collected by the government, the government will rebate all of that money back to every American household in the form of a dividend check. To incentivize other countries to reduce their carbon footprint, a border tax should be imposed on imports again based on the ton of greenhouse gases that were emitted to produce that product. Once a carbon fee and dividend law is enacted, innovation will be unleashed and manufacturers of electric vehicles will flood the market with them and their prices will decrease.
There is no time to waste on this. |

There are a multitude of benefits from adopting such a schedule for the involved states, including but not limited to, public health benefits from reducing gas burning for children, the elderly, and those with lung conditions - all of whom are among my patients, in lieu of upward trending (rather than downward trending) usage in the last decade. Furthermore, this policy change will enable the further development of electric car infrastructure, which will keep this region economically strong and vibrant in the near future and beyond. Strong rules are necessary to change our direction, and along with many of my peers and community members, I am in favor of this region taking active steps to formulate regulations that take us into a low-carbon future as fast as possible. |

I wonder whether lack of December 8,1941 action, continuously, to address the issue, is Mass Murder, or Mass Suicide. We've also known, since the '60s, the solutions to this potential 6th Major Extinction. Everything we can do to cut out CO2 from burning fossil fuel, and the faster, before we reach the "Tipping Point" the better. Keep up the good work. |

We are already seeing the effects of climate change in increased severe weather events and hotter temperature. The poor among us bear the brunt of the burden. Seeing that Massachusetts people are involved, I trust you will continue to lead. When investments are made in clean energy, I trust you will consult the communities involved, especially the poorer ones. Hopefully I will live to see the day (I am 79) of efficient train and bus service, electric car charging stations and dedicated bicycle and walking paths. The cost of doing nothing will be greater than that of taking action now. |
