A hearing could very easily be held at VTC in Randolph or any number of places in Montpelier. All of the locations are an hour or more from where I live in Tunbridge. On school nights this makes it nigh on to impossible to attend. I would be happy to help you find a location. |

Maine is a mostly rural state, where reliable, cost effective personal transportation is essential. Those of us who live in the rural areas do not have the advantages afforded to densely populated areas, such as walking distance amenities. Grocery stores, doctors, pharmacies and other necessities are a 20 minute or longer drive. We are dependent on affordable gas and heating fuel to live here. The TCI initiative will significantly raise prices for the consumer. Unfortunately, Governor Janet Mills seems unwilling to support the needs and wishes of Maine people. |

Please further ensure that the communities and areas that have historically been burdened with the worst impacts from the transportation sector receive the greatest relief under this proposed framework. I am doing my part, driving a 100% electric vehicle and purchasing all of my household power from a Green-e Energy certified electricity supplier; let's develop the best framework to encourage *everyone* in the region to make choices that safeguard a healthy climate for all of us over the long term. |

I think our state is in desperate need of infrastructure updates and the best way to do that—for people and the planet—is by developing the clean energy economy, reducing carbon emissions from the transportation sector, and increasing sustainable public transportation options. |

A lot of people who I know are moving out of Maine for this reason. If Maine doesn't lower the taxes there will be fewer of us living here to pay the bills, and that will increase the amount that everybody who is left in Maine has to pay. Please don't raise any more taxes. |

It is a guarantee that this will happen if Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker and his Left Wing Democrat fellow travelers are permitted to enact this monstrosity. This has already happened in California.
This TCI Carbon Tax nonsense is a solution to a problem that does not exist. There is no man-made climate problem.
Alleged mankind caused Global Warming, Climate Change, Extreme Weather, or whatever the Moonbat Liberal Left is calling it these days is the biggest hoax being perpetrated since the first Ponzi Scheme. This is all just a great big excuse to ruin the economy of the United States by destroying just about every one of our industries (energy, automobile, steel, agriculture etc . . .), and to redistribute income from those who have earned it to those who have not.
There is no proof, fake computer modeling aside, that we as a nation have done anything to impact global temperature, or that we could do anything in the future that could significantly change global climate.
We have had hurricanes, tornadoes, worldwide cooling and worldwide warming since the beginning of time, and we will continue to have them until the end of time. Nothing that we as a people can cumulatively do, or refrain from doing, will change this reality even a little bit.
The sole result of the TCI Carbon Tax will be to impoverish the working people of Massachusetts. Enactment of the TCI Carbon Tax will have no environmental impact whatsoever. The money collected from Massachusetts taxpayers from the TCI Carbon Tax may as well be flushed down the toilet.

I am a bit concerned that the "affected fuels" are limited to diesel and gasoline, while the topic of what fuels might be used to generate electricity to power cars and buses has been left unaddressed. I'm by no means an expert, however, and I applaud this as a good first step. We need to move away from the car culture that was carefully cultivated beginning in the 1950s, and anything that helps with that is welcome progress indeed. If this is seen as a first step, I'm all in; however, more needs to be done. |

Driving in Maine is different than in many states that have more options for public transportation, not that this initiative would be good for any state. This is a rural state, and driving is a necessity for jobs, school, etc. Additionally, most Mainers are already living paycheck to paycheck as the cost of living is much higher here. We cannot afford the tax increase this initiative would bring. |

This would not change anything, just cost citizens more money. I reviewed some of the responses and this is the best explanation of reality:
First, the economic side: A "carbon tax" or "gas tax" is extremely regressive and hurts low-income individual, small business, and rural communities disproportionately. The relatively MINOR emission reductions gained by this approach will do nothing to curve "climate change" and only place an unnecessary burden on low income, rural Mainers. We do not have the ability in this state not to drive. Taxes without representation is a socialist concept, not one of a free society.
Second, the scientific side. To argue that ANY reductions in emissions from the transportation sector will "reverse" climate change is silly and unscientific. To think that if the world were to stop emitting carbon tomorrow (every living organism on the planet would need to stop breathing) and then believing the climate would return to 1800's levels, is farcical. Think about it. Can humans really control the climate? Ridiculous. The biggest fraud on the American public is when the courts ruled that CO2 was an air pollutant! How can that be, when CO2 is merely part of an organism's life cycle. CO2 is not and never should be considered a pollutant. This is a manufactured crisis. If the climate changes, for whatever reason, we adapt. Has happened over the millennium. Humans adapt to their environment, they cannot control it.
SAY NO to this ill-conceived plan. NO TAXES without representation, and CO2 is NOT a pollutant. |
