The more we limit pollution from motor fuels, the more jobs we create, the more the economy grows, the healthier our air becomes, and the more lives we save. Maryland should join TCI to fund better transportation infrastructure, reduce traffic, and make my community a cleaner, safer place to live.
It is clear that air pollution from cars, trucks, and buses have become a huge detriment to my community’s health. Air pollution has been linked to a variety of health problems, including asthma, heart disease, and lung cancer, and the more ambitious TCI is, the more our community stands to benefit from a cleaner transportation system. I urge Governor Hogan to join TCI and push it to be as ambitious as possible, for the sake of my community’s health and livelihood.
As a person living in a rural area, I think that TCI is extremely important. When states join TCI, they have the opportunity to invest in rural communities where transportation options are limited. Joining TCI would allow Maryland to ensure that rural communities aren’t left behind in the green transition and stuck behind the wheel of costly, inefficient vehicles. Governor Hogan should push for an ambitious TCI program so that rural communities like mine get the solutions they need.

Renewable fuels must play a part in this program and should be given equal portion of the Cap Dollars that are collected.
Thank You |

Its also one of the poorest with 20% of people in rural areas living below the poverty level. We have a disproportionate number of seniors who travel long distances for medical care, some also have to pay a driver because there is no public transportation to large medical facilities 100 or 200 miles away round trip. The largest VA center is an all day trip there & back. Our basic necessities are more expensive because of transportation costs Our school budgets are higher because of transportation expenses in a geographically isolated area boarded by Canada and the Atlantic Ocean. There has been a huge loss of jobs here and no work for young people who have to move away for work. We are the "other state of Maine" separate from urban centers where the economy of scale can afford more services like public transportation. If our governor lived in the 2nd congressional district or even cared about it she would not propose such draconian measures to save the planet. People here will die for lack of access to necessary transportation at a cost they cannot afford |

I am struggling to survive on Social Security, and am seeking part-time employment that I can do with my physical limitations. I need to buy gasoline so I can drive to doctor's appointments, and hopefully a job, when I find one. I can almost not afford to heat my home, now. I cannot afford any increase in fuel costs. Maine is NOT causing "carbon based" pollution, the prevailing westerly winds bring it here from the rest of The Country. We should not be punished for not contributing to some fantasy global warming fiasco. Myself, and everyone I know should not be forced to have our money stolen from us in the form of some climate tax, to combat a problem that exists only in the minds of Democrats like Gov. Janet Mills. |

This initiative creates the opportunity to invest in our local community transportation systems while also addressing the climate crisis. Living in central Vermont, we have no access to public transportation. We have back-and-rides in almost all of our communities but nothing connecting them. In the winter, we have thousands of people driving each day between Rt 4, 100, and 107 between hotels ski resorts and different tourist destinations. We could alleviate the traffic, congestion in our small town, and restore our broken roads.

The Initiative not only makes sense from the perspective of mitigating damages that will be caused if the crisis gets worse, but it also makes sense economically. Transportation is one of the largest sources of pollution in my area, and the significantly higher rate of asthma we experience is no coincidence. This negatively detrements public health in the least just way possible, in a system where those polluting the most brunt the least of the consequences of their action, and those who have the least to do with the status quo continue to be those most negatively impacted. The positive feedback loop of health issues and poverty is perpetuated not least by the catastrophy of unregulated, often subsidized pollution caused by the transportation sector. This legislation is not the blanket solution to these deep rooted societal issues, however, it is the most significant step in the right direction proposed thus far. I encourage parties in power to strongly consider the TCI, and encourage everyone to harness the power of civil engagement and advocate for long overdue environmental justice. |

TCI would give my community the opportunity to invest money in transportation to meet the needs of the 21st century. Getting to and from places quicker, while polluting less, would be incredible, and is what our society demands. I think we should pass TCI, and bring our transportation up to date with the rest of the world. Tackling climate change and poor air quality should be our number one priority, and the TCI provides an avenue for the state to address climate change while also raising revenue for desperately needed transportation updates.
