I fully support the Transportation and Climate Initiative and hope our leaders will seriously consider and implement bold measures to transform the transportation sector. We need to show that our region and country can lead the way in reshaping our transportation from a highly polluting stain on our society to one that is innovative, accountable, clean, and healthy for its citizens.
As someone involved in local business, I would love to be able to transition my company’s fleet of vehicles to cleaner, sustainable options, but large scale transformation needs to take place so that these vehicles become mainstream and the infrastructure is there to support local communities and businesses to transition as well.
Thank you for your attention to this crucial issue. |

I am frankly baffled at the deep denial of the problem of human-caused climate change by the seeming majority of my fellow citizens. I emphatically support the Transportation and Climate initiative as one method in the effort to head off the impending climate disaster. All creatures on the planet, human and otherwise, are in dire need of us - the most affluent and greatest contributors to the problem - to make this effort. |

This innovative framework cuts pollution and invests in state of the art transportation solutions.
All the areas of focus are important to include. Urban, suburban, and rural communities will benefit from expanded, accessible and affordable public transportation; investments in electric buses, trucks, and personal vehicles; resilient transportation infrastructure; improved pedestrian walkways; safe infrastructure for biking; and transit-accessible affordable housing.
Each state must commit to the lowest possible level of pollution reductions in their final policy. Transportation accounts for the largest share of climate pollution, so the region’s clean transportation policy must be bold and ambitious enough to ensure the scale of pollution reductions we need will address the climate crisis. |

As a native of the northeast with children living in Boston and New York and relatives in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia I am an eyewitness to clogged roads. The need for a more efficient transportation system is obvious to anyone on these roads. A more efficient transportation system would have the added benefit of addressing pollution and climate change. |

We must cut our carbon emissions as quickly as possible. What is happening with Australia shows us that scientists have actually been too conservative on how fast climate change and serious damage is happening. In 26 years of living in Vermont I have never seen so much rain in February! I hope to see lots more bike paths, electric vehicles on the road, and electric vehicles for as much public transit as possible. Vermont is already at work making sure there are lots of fast recharging stations along our major north south and east west main highways. We must do more and as quickly as possible. |

Yet little is done to make Metro-North and Shoreline East a more attractive option for commuters. The fares have to come way down to get people out of their cars. Also I'd like to see shuttle service from train stations to area commuter parking lots. |

PA is falling behind all other northeastern and mid-Atlantic states in the transition to a smart, clean energy infrastructure. Clean transportation is the future. PA cannot afford to continue to keep its head in the sand. We need strong public transportation, not just in the Philadelphia area, but in every major city across the state. Trapping people in polluting, expensive internal combustion engines, causing congestion, inefficiency and waste is guaranteed to diminish our state's productivity and increase our citizens' health problems. |

Toll lanes encourage richer folks to keep relying on cars - even when modern technology could move them much faster by intercity train and/or metro. The enormous cost of such lanes - especially if they are built well enough to allow 70+ mph speeds - takes away from already hard pressed repair budgets. We can aim first for extending current technology - railways that allow 90 -110 mph average even including stops. Improving or replacing switches in the train yards - such as Baltimore, DC, and even NYC and Philadelphia - could cut 5 or 10 minutes off of each station's current delays. Maglev and hyperlink are probably decades away, but we should seriously look now into proposals such as the Frederick MD - DC monorail one; anything that promises to avoid the dreaded right-of-way acquisition problem. |
