I fully appreciate how hard it will be for small towns to meet the energy goal that Vermont has affirmed: each town needs to be powered by 90% renewable energy from within its borders by 2050. The Transportation and Climate Initiative as one of the many actions needed to make that goal possible. |

While offering their citizens a safe, cost effective and convenient way to get to work, shopping, the airport, etc, they have also enjoyed the benefits of cleaner air, less traffic, and a better overall quality of life.
We very quickly become enthusiastic users of the Frankfurt underground and streetcars. While in Amsterdam, their trams and buses provided an excellent way to get around. It was so good, we lived without a car - and were incredibly happy about it.
Now that we are back in the US, we see just how far behind our country is. It's clear that the fossil fuel lobbyists have a stranglehold on our politicians. There has been a hugely disappointing lack of progress. Despite this we've got to move ahead and take this opportunity to invest for our future. Let's work with these other states so that we can leverage the synergies and investment to make a transportation system that moves us into the future rather than keeping us locked in the past (and our cars) in the service of the fossil fuel industry. Let's move ahead with the TCI.
Thank you. |

It can and must be dealt with now! Sufficient data shows that emissions contribute 38% of green house gases and have long been known to impact people of all ages, most notably the young and those with compromised health issues. Epidemiological models reveal associated health problems from vehicles.
On many fronts, the fallout from Climate Change is being recognized as an existential threat to humans. Transportation pollution is an added factor to the Climate Change equation. Rising sea levels, warmer temperatures, loss of wildlife habitats, devastating earthquakes and tornadoes, increased forest fires, land erosion, and polluted air are a mega threat to all of us.
We are beyond the need for more studies and reasons to procrastinate. Leaders must show they are on top of meeting the exigencies affecting our health and that they care. Can we justify why we are polluting their air of our children and diminishing their future?
I entreat you to take action. My appreciation to Governor Lamont for taking the initiative.
With all due respect and regard
Cordially,
Ann Beaudin

Transportation is the sector having the most detrimental effect so we need to do something. It shouldn't be too hard to get folks out of their cars with some infrastructure changes and the TCI Regional Policy Design seems like the way. Please support this! Like so many areas where we need to make positive changes, it is a matter of standing up to large corporations that care for their profits over the affected citizens. |

We can either seize this opportunity to make monumental progress and have a chance to prosper in a clean energy future, or accept a status quo that is only becoming more and more difficult for Vermonters and more harmful to our environment.
I urge Vermont to formally join TCI so we can create a clean energy future that works better for everyone, especially our most vulnerable. Thank you for the work you’ve done so far to advance TCI across the region.

My biggest dream is that we might turn what could be our greatest doom into our greatest opportunity, and it's all about steps like this done the right way. Still, there have a been a lot of half (and less than half) measures taken towards addressing this emergency, so I urge you to take big, bold, science-guided, community-guided steps that meet the level that this emergency demands. Also, as justly and equitably as possible, and covering as many facets as possible.
And as a Californian who is frustrated at those half-measures taken by our Governor, I urge our state to implement programs like this as well. And immediately! We've already lost too much time to make this steady and easy, and inaction will make things even harder than that very soon.
Thank you for your efforts and your consideration,

We also must assure that communities impacted the most are included in decision making from the very beginning. |

Therefore we must concentrate on reducing carbon emissions now. Transportation is Vermont’s weakest sector, which is why Vermont especially needs to join TCI and help lead the northeast to a cleaner energy future.
Cap and invest programs are not new to Vermont. Since Gov. Douglas signed Vermont on to RGGI in 2008, Vermont’s cap and invest program has successfully reduced consumer costs and carbon pollution from the power sector by 40%, and its revenues have raised $2 million annually for weatherization programs to help Vermonters stop wasting energy and save money. Given that we know this type of project works, adopting TCI makes perfect sense. As I grow older I want to be able to age in place, and having greener options for transportation is the only way I’ll be able to do it. I am urging you on behalf of Vermonters like me and my aging friends as well as generations of future Vermonters to make sure that Vermont formally joins TCI. We must use every opportunity to create a clean energy future that works better for everyone, especially our most vulnerable. Thank you for the work you’ve done so far to advance TCI across the region. |

Unreliable transit is taking time residents should be spending at work or with their families. Those without choices have to drive and the resulting traffic congestion is further damaging our environment, public health, and quality of life.
Please choose the most aggressive greenhouse gas emissions cap.
Please make sure the a TCI policy has equity and investment in overburdened and under-served communities as a first and foremost priority.

I hope the system will be expanded as much as possible. As a senior, I will be relying on public transportation in the not-so-distant future. Some of my friends are now more or less homebound because they do not feel safe driving. Some people drive even when it isn't safe to do so because there is no alternative.
