It is disheartening to read in the Boston Globe that Republican Governor Sununu of neighboring New Hampshire has taken a negative position and will not sign on. That is very unfortunate for New Hampshire residents and the whole east coast states. |

TCI, like the successful RGGI program, will provide crucial support for achieving these goals. I hope and expect that TCI will provide much needed resources for initiatives such as accelerating electrification of transportation, including EV's, buses, and regional rail, as well improving roads, sidewalks and trails for pedestrians, e-bikers and ordinary bikers, and accelerating new approaches such as bus rapid transit and improved last-mile access to commuter rail stations, including secure bike parking, more parking spots for cars, and shuttle services.
Current fiscal policies require that commuter rail passengers pay an extraordinary share of the cost of operating the Boston area transportation system, with fares increasing far more than gas taxes, and commuter rail fares increasing far beyond other types of mass transit. TCI represents an opportunity to both bring in new dollars for strategic improvements, and to also make the allocation more fair, between commuter rail users and drivers, and also between commuter rail and other forms of mass transit. |

We need more efficient trains, better roads and bridges. We look almost like a 3rd world country than one of the Best Countries in the World. Trump has done everything he can to remove all legislation that would improve the climate of world. In addition, Trump is also trying to do whatever he can to cause more pollution and add to the decline of this world. There is no "B" planet and if we want the human race to continue Trump not only needs to be stopped (Impeached and removed) and all the legislation that has been removed must be put back into enforcement. |

I believe it is important as soon as possible to reduce pollution from transportation which is the largest source of global warming emissions. Pennsylvania should formally join the plan to reduce emissions. The policy should have a strong component of equity by prioritizing clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don't have access. I am grateful for the bipartisan nature of this project, moving us forward while the federal government takes us backward. |

Thus all ways of reducing fossil fuel use are urgently needed. Improving publicly available mass transit and regional transit systems is an excellent way to do this. In addition, it will make affordable transportation readily available to many more people. I have traveled extensively in other parts of the world, many of which have far better public transit systems then does the United States. The city of Budapest, Hungary is an excellent example. As a city of 2 million people, not wealthy, it has nonetheless built extensive, readily available subway, light rail, and electric bus mass transit that is affordable. Even large cities in India are rapidly developing local and regional affordable mass transit such as light rail systems. Where available they are preferred transport given how difficult it is to drive automobiles. I grew up in the Boston, Massachusetts area and so was used to one of the earliest and most extensive subway and light rail public transit systems in the United States. It is still very effective. |

To work well, it needs to take me from where I am to where I need to go in a reasonable amount of time, under conditions that are reasonably pleasant, for a reasonable monetary cost. It will never be self-supporting; the subsidy is part of the cost of greasing the wheels of society and commerce.
That said, public transportation is a nearly unique opportunity to cut back carbon emissions even further than just getting automobiles off the road: electric and hydrogen fueled busses and trains will aid this necessary new phase. |
